The Beginning

The Monoposto Speed30 began as a simple one-off commuter, designed and built in a shipyard in the old seaside town of Enkhuizen in 2012, before it was brought to the attention of Monoposto co-founders and long-time friends, Hans-Peter Smilda and Kenneth Jaworski, in 2017. It was not initially the intention to acquire such a boat, but the attraction to the purposeful beauty and potential of this boat convinced both men that it should become the first Prototype of the brand, forming the basis for future development and improvement. Hans-Peter, a Dutch businessman, long-time boat owner and licensed skipper; and Kenneth, an American-born multi-disciplinary designer with both yacht and sailboat design experience, saw in the prototype a unique character that lent itself to further design improvement and technical development, and eventual limited series production. Both men saw not only what the Monoposto was, but what it could, with hard work and passion, become.

Building Towards the Future

In all aspects of production, Monoposto chooses a path that is the most sustainable and delivers the least negative impact on the environment, through the use of certified and innovative materials, and sustainable best practices. However, our research into and use of alternative materials and water-based coatings is only part of our philosophy. Since the beginning, Monoposto has been researching and developing the possibilities of environmentally-friendly propulsion in a usable and practical format. Bearing in mind the philosophy of the Speed30, we are working to offer an optional diesel-electric hybrid power option for both the Speed30 and Speed30S that can also deliver the speed and running time desired by our owners. While 100% electric options are limited for a boat the size of the Speed30, we feel that hybrid power, developed in tandem with our European hybrid specialist and our engine supplier, Volvo Penta, moves us into a truly unique position in our class. At the same time, our ongoing work on the Monoposto SEA20 Project explores what might be possible in a smaller, 100% electric member of the Monoposto family.

A Commitment to The Planet

We believe that every company should do its best to offset any negative impact it may have on the environment. We remain very aware of global initiatives that seek to improve life on our planet and in particular the health and viability of our oceans and waterways. It is in this spirit that we have chosen to contribute a portion of our profits to support The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch-based, global initiative to rid the oceans of plastic using advanced technologies. You can learn more about them here. We also encourage you to donate to them directly.
